OMI VIEW - Very High Definition Workstation for Medical Domains (ESPRIT project 24002)

The aim of the VIEW project is to provide an European solution to the growing demand for high resolution graphics in the medical domain.
For this project, CAPTEC will provide a high performance image processing toolkit which can be used by application developers to make use of the special functions available in the display hardware. The prime contractor is Thomson TSI. Other partners include the University of Tuebingen and Vienna General Hospital.
Project Started: 1-May-97

AMIE - Advanced Multimedia Interactive Environment (ESPRIT)

AMIE combined the latest ATM network based exploded workstation concept with an advanced and distributed application to provide the world's first truly multi-media (tele)conferencing facility for healthcare professionals. The system was installed for use by cardiologists in St. James' Hospital, Dublin and has been a considerable success.
CAPTEC's role in the project was as the partner responsible for the application development. The project was led by Olivetti Research Limited in Cambridge.
Project Duration: 1-Jan-94 to 30-Sep-96

PAPYRUS - Pen And Paper Input Recognition Using Script (ESPRIT)

In this project, CAPTEC developed a portable pen computer based data entry application for patient information in hospital accident and emergency departments. The application was written for the Microsoft Pen Windows environment using Visual C and the MFC library.
Project Duration: 1-Jan-91 to 31-Dec-92

FANSTIC-2 - Future ATM, New Systems and Technologies Integration in Cockpit (BRITE/EURAM AERO-CT92-0033)

This project was a continuation of the FANSTIC project. The prime objective of the project was to study and prepare an effective integration of the future air navigation systems into civil aircraft and therby to provide an efficient participation of the European Union in the world-wide Air Traffic Management (ATM) improvement process.
CAPTEC participated as an associated contractor to Aerospatiale, the project coordinator. In the project, CAPTEC further developed a touch-pad based input device for controlling aspects of the Flight Management System (FMS) and the coordination of data transfer between Air Traffic Control (ATC) and the FMS. The CAPTEC touch-pad was implemented and tested in 3 cockpit simulators.
Project Duration: Jan-93 to Dec-95

HRAMI - High Resolution Automated Microbial Identification (BIOMED)

Development of image analysis algorithms for the automated identification of in-vitro bacteria samples labelled with fluorescent RNA probes.

SWIFT - (EURET)

Investigation of human factors / requirements for future air traffic control working positions.

MARAS - MArine RAdiometric Spectrometer (MAST MAS2-CT92-0020)

The objectives of this project were:
1. to relate in-situ measurements of the optical properties of marine waters over the full spectrum to ocean constituent contenets and
2. to predict top of atmosphere spectral radiances to optimise the design of future remote sensing systems for constituent estimation.
The measurements required to fulfil these objectives were carried out using an instrument system, the MArisne RAdiometric Spectrometer (MARAS), which has been prototyped under a MAST-1 research contract.
Project Duration: 1-Nov-92 to 31-Oct-95

ASANCA - Advanced Study on Active Noise Control in Aircraft (BRITE/EURAM AERO 0028)

The main goal of this project was to investigate the active noise control technique for fixed wing aircraft in greater detail and to identify possible optimum control systems for this type of aircraft for future practical applications. In addition, a small work program on rotary wing aircraft interior noise control was included attempting to identify the most promising research methods that are available for helicopters and to prepare the ground for a possible major future research initiative in this field.
CAPTEC's participation was as an associate contractor to Trinity College Dublin, a project partner.
Project Duration: 1-Jul-90 to 30-Sep-92

IMAGES - (BRITE/EURAM)

FANSTIC - Future ATM, New Systems and Technologies Integration in Cockpit (BRITE/EURAM)

MIMI - (AIM)

Investigation on the requirement for and development of a prototype medical imaging workstation.

IMU - Image and Movement Understanding (ESPRIT 419)

The IMU project concerned research on the fundamental algorithms for computer vision and cursive script analysis.
